Trying Something New - Alcohol Inks

Photography has always been my main squeeze. My first love. My ride or die. (artistically speaking of course) I've always been able to SEE the beauty in things, to capture it... but when it came to actually CREATING something beautiful, I always shied away from it. I thought that I didn't have *that* kind of talent or that people wouldn't like what I've created. I know, I know... it doesn't matter if other people don't enjoy it, as long as I do - but we all long for approval and acceptance, right? Right. Recently I decided to jump in, head first into a new medium. I didn't put my camera aside, it's like another appendage and I always with me... but I wanted more; something in addition to photography.

I stumbled upon the world of alcohol inks. They fascinate me. The bright colors, the ability to create something stunning really quickly (you know, instant gratification and all that jazz), and probably most important to me - how incredibly forgiving they are given my lack of any sort of formal art training whatsoever. I'm really enjoying then learning process (and the learning curve), researching different techniques and watching the amazing works of art that others have created on YouTube.

So far, I've been mostly working with Yupo paper and Ranger Inks.

My goal was to create pieces that I could then turn into stationery note card sets. I'm having a blast with it. All of my artwork is always nature themed, I find so much inspiration in Nature and working with alcohol inks, while abstract, still make me think of Nature. I have a few sets currently listed in my Etsy Shop for sale, with more to come.

I have also started working with the inks directly on glass and the result is stunning! I have this beauty in my shop as well.

"This amazingly colorful, modern piece is one of a kind. Painted to resemble the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis, I used Ranger Alcohol Inks, 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and fire. Yes fire. Carefully placed colors, Wild Plum, Stream & Lettuce were applied directly to the glass and using a method in which the fire fuses the ink to the glass, I created this gorgeous scene which I'm just in love with. This finished piece is displayed in a 100% Hand-finished Burlywood picture frame. Suitable for desktop display & wall hanging/mounting. The rectangular picture frame measures 7"x9" and has a high density board on reverse.

For someone who loves Nature and the abstract, this is a perfect marriage of the two. Add a splash of color to your space with this unique, original piece!"

So, with a little imagination and my intense love for nature, I'm creating. Creating for the love of doing it and creating in hopes of sharing my work with others and bringing them joy as well. Keep checking back to see what else I come up with and as always, new listings are always being added to my shop
