Pen Pals
When I was a child, I loved to write to my pen pals. I had a few... ranging from kids my own age right here in America to a young boy who lived in Germany and even an elderly man who wrote articles for our local fishing newspaper. I just loved writing. I loved learning about other people and their lives, where they lived, what they liked to do. I loved going out to the mailbox every day, hoping that there was an envelope waiting for me. It was fun, exciting, educational and to this day, I have kept contact with one of my pen pals and through social media have been able to keep in touch with her and watch her family grow from half way across the country - all thanks to being pen pals when we were children.
I wonder if kids these days still have pen pals? Do they take the time to put pen to paper and then wait for "old fashioned" snail mail to be delivered? I know that when I mail anything to my cousin's son, he gets so incredibly excited when the envelope is addressed to him. While creating the cards that I sell on Etsy, I've thought about all of this. I think about how fun it would have been for me as a child to receive a note from my pen pal written in a note card with a beautiful photograph of nature or wildlife on the front of it. If your child has an interest in writing to a pen pal, encourage him/her! They will create memories to last a lifetime and they'll even work on their grammar, penmanship and spelling without even realizing it. Win, win... right?
Here are a few examples of the cards available in my shop right now that I think would be perfect for kids. Click on the title links to go directly to the listing:
